More fun on Kuiu Island

The Lindblad/National Geographic trip, so far, has been incredible. The first day, Sunday, was rainy, but that did not stop us from kayaking for about an hour and a half in Saginaw Bay on Kuiu Island. We saw barnacles close-up and star fish amongst the rocky coast. We took a hike through a temperate rain forest seeing trees over 400 years old. They are mainly Sitka Spruce and hemlocks. The bear population is about 3 per square mile. We did not meet one, but we saw lots of bear scat. That’s what bears do – they leave scat around the island. So we now know that a bear does scat in the woods. In the afternoon we heard about forest succession and took a Zodiac ride around the island.
