My Mind is on Our Alaska Trip

About 9 months ago, we paid our deposit for a Linblad/National Geographic cruise on Alaska's Inside Passage. We were looking forward to the trip, but it was so far in the future, that our only discussion revolved around trip insurance. The trip insurance was significant. I was able to procrastinate until the deadline to purchase the insurance had passed. A few months ago, we paid the remainder of the trip fare. We started to get excited and hop[ed that the Swine Flu would not make us regret purchasing trip insurance. We depart on Friday and we are not feeling flu-like.

Our ship is the National Geographic Sea Bird. It has a passenger capacity of 62, and as of a few days ago, it was not sold out. We are in cabin #100. It is behind the bridge and adjacent to the captain's cabin. We are scheduled to have a support staff (called Expedition leaders) of 5 naturalists. Depending on weather conditions, we will be getting close to wildlife and the natural landscape using sea kayaks and zodiacs. We will be joined by another couple who have often shared our vacations.

I plan to blog the vacation with photos, words, and maybe some videos. The ship has a satellite connection to the Internet (about $0.50/minute) so connecting should not be a problem. The blogging has now officially started.

The image above is not our ship. It is a photo from Bergen, Norway from last year's blog vacation.

  1. Oh wow...sounds like quite a trip! Have a wonderful time! David would be jealous - I only let him take me to warm places :-). We just did the Caribbean and Bahamas.
