Auto-scaping

Stanley Marsh has often been called an artist, a prankster, and a philanthropist. I don't know if you have ever given much thought to Stanley, but I think he was way ahead of his time when he created the Cadillac Ranch in Amarillo, Texas.

There has been lots of focus on what to do about the multi year drought that we are living with in Austin, Texas. We are are under strict water control and are down to once a week lawn watering. There have been lots of articles in the paper about the use of native plants; they require less water. Xeriscaping is another low water option. But as long as "cash for clunkers" is still fresh in our psyche, I think we should devote some thought to auto-scaping. Stanley might have been on to something when he planted those Cadillacs back in the 1970's. Think about it. They require no water; in fact, water might make them erode. Rust will do that. For the little grass that does manage to grow, adding a steer will keep it under control; it could end up being a source of protein as well. If we have further water restrictions imposed, I may go rent a backhoe and plant my wife's car. She is tired of it anyway.
