Oaxaca: Tamales y Enchiladas a el Mercado de Etla

At one point on our market tour in the market at Etla, Yolanda gave each of us a plastic spoon and told us to guard it with all of our strength. We were about ro start tasting the good stuff. We entered an area that smelled of tamales and other good mouth watering treats. There were lots of women in aprons standing behind large hot and steaming pots.

Hot steaming tamales where to be seen at every turn. The odor was intoxicating.

There were lots to choose from.

We didn't need to make a choice; Yolanda was ordering 5 of the classic tamales

These tamales were as big as a small child's head, not like the ones we get in Texas.

They were all yummy, but I can not rember all the names.

Big enough to share if you keep your spoon.

After tasting tamales, cheese, and ice cream, we sat at an lunch counter. There were 2 choices for lunch. We didn't need lunch but we ordered anyway. Enchiladas rojo (above) was wonderful.

The enfrijolada was killer, too. The beverage choice was chocolate con agua or con leche. It is hot chocolate with water or milk. Con agua was the best.

As you can see, we finished it all!
