Meeting the Torvik's - Stangvik Church
Birger and Torill Solem spent some time tracing the family tree through the records and graves at the Stangvik parish church. This is the place where most of the Torviks' Norwegian relatives have been laid to rest.
Jay (above) is simulating the position of Elin Marta Johandotterbø. This is the spot that the cemetery map indicates as her grave. As I mentioned before, if one does not pay the fee to keep a headstone in place, it is stacked against the wall or a shed in the cemetery. We are not sure if Elin Marta had a headstone, but we could not find one.
This is the view out onto the fjord in front of the church.

The cemeteries provide tools for watering, weeding, trimming and generally maintaining the grave sites. It is kind of a do-it-yourself thing.
