Day #30 Brisbane, Queensland, Australia

We took the bus to Prosperpine/Whitsunday Coast Airport and made our way to Brisbane on a Quantas Dash 8.

From the airport, we were planning to take the train to the Central Station, a block from our Air B&B. The volunteer at the info desk at the airport advised taking a taxi. He said the taxi would take us to the door of the rental for about AUS$10 more than the train. It turned out to be AUS$6 less than the train. Our Air B&B was an apartment in a rental apartment building. The reservation desk had no info about our arrival. Several messages and calls resolved the problem. The A/C broke down a couple of days ago; so a 20% discount was offered and accepted. Upon arrival in the unit, we discovered the ceiling fan would not turn on. Lots more messages. Then someone from the reservation desk came up to our unit to verify that the fan was not functioning. More messages. The bottom line is that the Air B&B landlord only wants 5 star ratings. It's not looking good.

Anyway, we took off for a quick look at Brisbane. It is the 3rd largest city and like many in Australia, was a penal colony. The whole penal colony system was interesting in that after serving their sentence, the convict had to pay his own transport to England. Most never came up with the price of a ticket home. Australia became home.
