Day #50 Darwin City

It rained overnight. Well, it is the end of the rainy season. It has been hot and humid since we arrived and today was no different.

Today, we were to visit Crocosaurus Cove, for an up close and personal view of Australia's saltwater crocodiles, other reptiles, and some fish. It is a combination aquarium and circus sideshow-like event. Don’t confuse my words with a lack of appreciation for the show; it was entertaining. They take crocodiles that are designated as pests and give them a home. Some are very aggressive. One large male had a female put into his space with the hope of creating a breeding pair. The male consumed her in short order. We saw fish, turtles and rays being hand fed. We saw crocs being fed. We saw people put in a plexiglass cylinder and lowered into a croc tank for a closer look. Many of the crocs were at or near 10 feet long. One was estimated to be 90 years old with the prospect of living well beyond 100 years. Australian saltwater crocodiles are not to be trifled with. Four hours was enough to absorb in one day.

We went back to our place and had a dip in the pool and hung out in our apartment for the remainder of the afternoon. A short happy hour and then off to our evening meal.

Tomorrow, we take the 4 ½ hour flight back to Sydney.
