We headed out for a short hike before we started the drive to Dunedin. Mt Cook was off and on covered in clouds, but we got a few snaps. A few photos of Lake Pukaki, too.

Omarama was a place to stretch our legs. It is a town that over extended itself in boom times in the early 20th century, but they had so much invested in white stone buildings, they weathered the financial storm. A 91 year old retired, chiropractor initiated a conversation along the main drag. He did his chiropractic studies in Indianapolis quite a few years ago. We did veer into US politics.(No, I will not reveal the content of our discussion.) |

Our destination for the next couple of nights was/is Dunedin. It was settled by Scots in the 19th century. The oldest university in New Zealand is located in Dunedin, the University of Otago. We had a good walk-around. Most places were closed as it was Sunday. We dined in a small, crowded but friendly Irish pub in the town center.
Tomorrow, we explore the Otago Peninsula.
