Not much going on on the drive to Greymouth. We stopped in Hokitika, a old gold rush town enroute to our train in Greymouth. A small purchase of possum merino gloves and a stocking cap, only merino. This is also the home of the Wild Food Festival which we missed by only a couple of weeks.

On to Greymouth, Known as being the point to board the Trans Alpine train to Christchurch and pounamu. Pounamu is a jade collected in its raw form and then fashioned into various jewelry and works of art. A birthday gift (to be delivered in December) will reflect that art. Greymouth was a gold mining town and later a coal mining town. Not much of either exists today.

The train ride was interesting and at times spectacular. It's difficult to take photos through a train window.

Our final evening in New Zealand had us washing clothes in the machines provided in our motel room and nearly being too late to find an open restaurant.
