We departed the Scenic Hotel Bay of Isles heading to the west side of the North Island. Our first stop was in Opononi. It is the the place where we first set eyes on the Tasman Sea.

We turned south and visited the Waipoua Forrest, the home of the Kuari tree. It only grows in a limited part of the North Island. Its roots are fragile and foot traffic near by is very damaging.

Tāne Mahuta, the largest kauri tree, which is approximately 2,000 years old and still growing |
